Ben Franklin famously proposed adopting the Wild Turkey as the United States National Bird and symbol of the new country, and most of the country couldn't tell if he was joking or not. Few had the opportunity to observe Ben strolling the Philadelphia streets with his pet turkey or they would have known he was dead serious!

This cover featuring the Benjamin Franklin Tricentennial issue of 2006 bears a single from the quartet of 39¢ singles issued in Philadelphia picturing Franklin as the first U.S. Postmaster General, as well as a single of the 1956 3¢ Wildlife Conservation issue depicting a Wild Turkey. They are tied by the pictorial cancel commemorating AmeriCover 2009 in Boxborough, MA.

Also included is a 'stuffer' which carries the text of a letter Franklin wrote to his daughter explaining his support for voting for the Wild Turkey as the U.S. National Bird!
