Item Description
Here's a cacheted FDC that predates Bennett CACHETOONS by several years. Back in the mid-80s I was drawing cachets for a stamp shop in Virginia where my dad was a regular customer. I would draw the cachet, send him the artwork, and he would print them up and have them serviced. The deal, as I remember it, was that in exchange for the artwork, he would send me maybe 5 serviced FDCs . . . but he never did!After a while I wised up and started photocopying my artwork on envelopes before sending it to Virginia, and getting my own covers serviced! This is one such example - for the 7.4¢ Baby Buggy of the 1880s, that was part of the popular Transportation Coil series.
When I wasn't looking, apparently my dad wrote my name at the bottom of the cachet, since I had forgotten to sign it!
This is one of the very few forerunners that received handcoloring!
