Item Description
Signed USPS First Day of Issue Ceremony Program for the dedication of Scott #2818 29c Buffalo Soldiers stamp, FDOI, April 22, 1994, Dallas, Texas. "...they received the highest number (18) of Congressional Medals of Honor and had the lowest desertion rate of any Army regiment from 1867 to 1898. In addition to engaging in several skirmishes with Native Americans, they confronted outlaws, desperadoes, protected stage and railway lines, guarded frontiersmen against bandits and cattle rustlers and rescued Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders during the Spanish American War." This program was autographed Marvin Runyon, then Post Master General of the United States, and by Clyde Heron (1929-1999) Civil War and Indian Wars artist. The cover reproduces his "Attack on Eagle Springs," which is also the basis for the stamp. The stamp itself was designed by the well known Civil War artist Mort Kunstler. Program measures 9" x 6".Sales History
