AUSTRIA: METER STAMP usage; 8pf bulk mailing stamp, (#PE3 B), 18.8.36 Vienna impression, addressed Madison WI USA, Hotel Imperial c/c, envelope was mailed to Mrs. Meek (wife of famous philatelist Walter Meek, who visited Austria in his youth), he no doubt stayed in the hotel, joining a famous and infamous list, as ADOLF HITLER Worked in the hotel briefly when he was an itinerant artist in Vienna, he later returned and stayed in the Presidential Suite after Anschluss in 1938, Queen Elizabeth and Charlie Chaplin also stayed in the great building, some small flts to edges, not the most common meter stamp, Fine-VF

Simon Wiesenthal, survivor of the Holocaust celebrated his 90th birthday in the hotel.

These BAR BEZAHLT meter stamps were used on bulk mailings, but are still considered a postal meter rather than a permit paid marking. Still I wonder if the mail was collected unfranked, then metered and delivered to the Post Office. That would make this a sort of hotel usage.
