This cover commemorating the Texas Centennial Year was mailed from Austin, Texas to Gonzales, Texas in 1936 franked by a 3-cent purple Texas Centennial issue of 1936, Scott 776. The stamp is tied to the envelope by a machine cancellation.

The printed black cachet with the envelope's black border mourns the 100th Anniversary of The Father of Texas," Stephen F. Austin's passing.

The purple, circular handstamped cachet depicts a map with wording, in part, "The Republic of Texas Voluntarily Surrendered Sovereignty...Added to the Union 1936."

The backflap is un-sealed and intact. No contents or backstamps.
