Apollo 7 Launch (10/11/1968) Orbit cachet Astronauts - Schirra; Cunningham and EiseleThis cover commemorates the Apollo 7 (AS-205) space capsule recovery, containing 3 astronauts: Walt Schirra; Walter Cunningham and Don Eisele returning to Earth from their MOON space mission on 11/22/1968 splashing down in the Atlantic Ocean, where they were picked up by Helos from the USS Essex (CVS-9). During the 11 day mission, the astronauts: Schirra, Eisle & Cunningham practiced space docking and rescue missions. The 1st television transmission was made from space by the astronauts. This cover was machine cancelled at Cape Canaveral, FL on the day of the launch .
