I apologize to all philatelists out there. My dad is 85 years young and I am trying to help him "downsize" some of his stuff. Stamps appear to be "some of his stuff". What I know about stamps would probably fit on the stamp itself, but I am trying to look things up as I go. This item is a single stamp on the original envelope. It is #783, the large, rectangular, violet, Oregon Territory 1836-1936 stamp. It was issued in 1936. The stamp is well centered and in very good condition.

The cancellation is a rectangular flag with the phrase "Buy US Savings Bonds-Ask Your Postmaster". The postmark is "52 Chicago, ILL", Sep 21, 1936.
