Item Description

629 block on U429 envelope, Second IPEX cancel. The Battle of White Plains was commemorative of the battle lead by Alexander Hamilton in the revolutionary war. The Second International Philatelic Exhibition was held in NYC. The 4 stamps produced for the show were Cinderella souvenir stamps with no noted value. They are beautiful but only meant to commemorate the show. However the Battle of White Plains stamp became Scott 630 souvenir sheet. This block comes from the bottom left corner of a sheet cancelled and mailed from the show. Few covers feature this block with this cancel. It is a terrific find!
