US: 3c Win The War, (#905), tied by handstamped July 4 1942 First Day of issue cancel, large size cover w/ Permit imprint, unaddressed, c/c for the Reconstruction Finance Corporation in D.C. Very fresh and rare item! VF.

The Reconstruction Finance Corporation (RFC) provided financial support to state and local governments between 1932 and 1957. Its purpose was to boost the country’s confidence and help banks resume daily functions after the start of the Great Depression. The RFC was modeled after the War Finance Corporation of World War I. The RFC continued to operate through WWII. It was disbanded in 1957, when the US government concluded that it no longer needed to stimulate lending. It had an important role in World War II. The employee who made these covers would have been off work the day of the stamps issue (July 4) and most likely had to travel into the city to make them.
