2022 Stamp National state symbols of Ukraine. Trident. Emblem of Ukraine

On January 21, 2022, Ukrposhta has put into circulation a stamp depicting the Small State Emblem of Ukraine – the trident – ​​for the Day of Unity of Ukraine.
During the period of independence, it became one of the official symbols of Ukraine. The Verkhovna Rada approved the trident as the Small State Emblem on February 19, 1992.

The postage stamp, in addition to the image of the trident, contains the colors of the Ukrainian flag, which are also presented on the envelope for this issue. The cancellation stamp bears the famous saying of Vyacheslav Chornovil “Ukraine begins with you”.
The design of the postage stamp, envelope and “First Day” postmark was developed by Ukrposhta designer Oksana Shuklinova.

The Small State Emblem of Ukraine was based on the trident of Prince Volodymyr the Great of Kiev. During the time of Kievan Rus, the trident was depicted on coins, seals, dishes, bricks, and wall paintings. In 1918, a sign from the coins of the time of Volodymyr the Great was taken as the basis for the emblem of the UNR, and in the same year the trident appeared on Ukrainian banknotes.

In addition to postage stamps, the trident is also depicted on official documents, seals, banknotes, official certificates, stamps, and letterheads of state institutions. It is placed on the facades of administrative buildings of state bodies, foreign diplomatic missions of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian Antarctic station "Akademik Vernadsky".
