The city of special redemption of the stamp - Sloviansk, Donetsk region, January 22, 2020.
On January 22, 2020, on the day of the end of the heroic defense of the Donetsk airport, Ukrposhta put into circulation the postage stamp "They survived! The concrete couldn't stand it!". It is a tribute to the Ukrainian soldiers who defended the resort for 242 days.
"Ukrainian soldiers who defend our land and whom the enemies called "cyborgs" for their resilience appeared on the Ukrainian stamp. We are proud to honor our soldiers! This is one of the significant events of the heroic defense of Ukraine, which is an example of indomitability, courage and devotion for all of us. Since 2014, Ukrposhta has been issuing postage stamps dedicated to our army and defenders of the Ukrainian land. And, of course, we will continue this topic in the future", - noted the general director of Ukrposhta Ihor Smilyanskyi.
The postage stamp, the author of which is the graphic artist Andriy Yermolenko, was produced in a circulation of 130,000 copies.
The fighting for the airport lasted from May 26, 2014 to January 22, 2015 and ended after the complete destruction of the airport. During the defense of the airport, more than 200 Ukrainian soldiers died, 58 of them - in the last few days as a result of the explosion of the Donetsk airport terminal.
Special forces of the 3rd separate regiment, fighters of the 79th, 80th, 81st, 95th separate airmobile and 93rd separate mechanized brigades, 57th separate motorized infantry brigade, 90th separate airmobile and 74th separate reconnaissance battalions fought in the Donetsk airport and the village of Pisky during this period. , fighters of the "Dnipro-1" regiment, the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps (DUK) and others.
