Maria Prymachenko (1909-1997) is a Ukrainian phenomenon, a master of Ukrainian "naive art". It became widely known for its fantastic animals and their fabulous, natural universe.
Drawing animals, Maria Prymachenko seems to have written these myths, fairy tales, and legends. The artist created more than 900 unique paintings. She was an extremely gifted person - she drew equally skillfully with both hands. Her unique world of fantastic, fairy-tale images expertly recreated the feelings that lived in the people, their folklore and thoughts. The artist's works in the style of "naive art" are true and pure art, without unnecessary decoration, born in the environment of pristine nature.
It became a symbol of Ukrainian art, spreading recognition of Ukraine throughout the world. Maria Prymachenko's name is recorded in the history of art along with such outstanding artists as Henri Rousseau and Niko Pirosmani.
The painting "Blue Bull" depicted on the postage stamp was created in 1947. The bull is a symbol of fertility associated with the sky, performed by Maria Prymachenko in the form of a star-spangled creature with a crown and a lush beard. The issue is dedicated to the upcoming year 2021 - the year of the White Metal Bull according to the Eastern calendar.
