In 2020, the "Ukrainian national clothing" series, which began in 2001, is completed by a postal block dedicated to the Mykolaiv Oblast, Kirovohrad Oblast, and Kyiv Polissia, as well as Ukrainian folk and religious holidays.
The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is traditionally celebrated on September 21. In Russia, it was also called "Malaya Prechishta" or Asposov day.
Palm Sunday is a Sunday celebrated 7 days before Easter. Ukrainians celebrate the willow tree on Palm Sunday. It is believed that this tree saves from many ailments and has remarkable miraculous power.
According to folk beliefs, Dmitri's Day (October 26) ends the agricultural year, closes the earth and brings winter. In ancient times, Dmitri's day was considered as one of the terms of matchmaking.
The Day of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God is celebrated twice a year: July 21 and November 4. The people used to say: "In Kazan, it's autumn before noon, and winter after noon." It was also good to get married on this day, because the Mother of God of Kazan helps in love.
The entry into the temple of the Virgin Mary or the Third Immaculate is celebrated on December 4. It is believed that with the onset of the holiday, winter comes to earth and finally comes into its own.
Anna's Day is celebrated on December 22 and it is not marked by any special rituals. However, in ancient times it was quite a significant event. People still call this day "the family of the sun", because Anna's conception falls on the winter solstice, after which the sun "returns to summer, and winter to frost."
