The castle is located on a cape near the confluence of the South Bug and Buzhok rivers (Khmelnytskyi region), from which the oldest name of the town "Mezhybozh" arose. Under this name, Medzhibyzh was first mentioned in the Ipatiev Chronicle in 1146. The first wooden fortification was built during the times of Kyivan Rus. The stone castle was first built by the Koriatovych princes from the Gedyminovich dynasty of Lithuanian princes. In the 16th century, Medzhibiz Castle acquired its modern outlines with impregnable walls, powerful towers, a Renaissance palace, walled buildings and a castle church. Reconstruction of the XIX century. gave it the appearance of a romantic residence and the unofficial name "White Swan".
