Item Description
The Claude C. Ries Chapter of the American First Day Cover Society holds a Christmas Party every year for its members. Based around the consumption of baked potatoes, it is known as the 'Yule Tuber Party'.A cover is prepared every year as a memento for the attendees - in 2016, for the first time ever, Icelandic stamps were chosen to frank the cover, rather than the customary current U.S. Holiday issue.
•••• Because of a delay in the stamps arriving in the U.S., making obtaining Icelandic cancels impossible, faux cancels were created, mimicking the official First Day of Issue cancels used in Reykjavík. This was done with the permission of Iceland Post. Potatoes were added to the postmark design for extra concordance! The facsimile postmark situation is explained on the reverse . . . underneath the Holiday Puffin Cachets logo!
The cachet shows a grandmotherly Icelandic Puffin knitting and over-sized cap and scarf for the bewildered Ries Chapter Potato mascot, Spudly.
