Item Description

The Claude C. Ries Chapter - a motley crew of Southern California FDC collectors - gathers every summer for a bountiful BBQ.  For many years we celebrated at the Pasadena home of the late noted philatelist Frederick Langford, at the stately manor where Frederick was born and grew up in the 1920s.

Now known as the Frederick Langford Memorial BBQ, the big event moved following Frederick's passing, and was held annually at the West Hills home of Chapter member and cover dealer Ron Sobel.

This cover was given out to attendees of the annual summer get-together on 2014. It bears a single of the small definitive red Hot Rod stamp issued earlier that year, and the cachet shows Ron and his dog Lady in their souped-up weinermobile street machine, the Hot Dog Hot Rod!

It was cancelled on July 19, 2014 - the date of the BBQ - at the West Hills, CA post office - the nearest one to Ron's home.
