For those of you who are unfamiliar with what a first day cover is... A first day cover is an envelope with a stamp cancelled by the postal authority on the first day that the stamp is available for sale to the public. This usually ocurrs only in one city the designated first day of issue city, the stamp is available for sale in other cities on the day after the first day. A stamp cancelled in a city other than the first day of issue city is considered an unofficial firs day of issue cancellation. The design on the envelope is called a "cachet", these are produced by various private cachetmakers and may be printed, painted, handcolored etc..
