Item Description
The Claude C. Ries Chapter of the American First Day Cover Society holds a Christmas Party every year for its members. Based around the consumption of baked potatoes, it is known as the 'Yule Tuber Party'.A cover is prepared every year as a memento for the attendees - in 2000, for the first time ever in the club's existence, the USPS issued NO CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY stamps, which always were chosen to frank the cover!
What to do??
The closest stamp issue to the date of the party was the DEEP SEA Creatures set of 15 different denizens of the dark ocean waters.
Luckily a trio of POTATO ANGLERFISH Santa Wannabees agreed to grace the cover given to the attendees of the Yule Tuber Party, which, although free, still garnered a lot of furrowed brows and quizzical looks.
The covers were postmarked on December 2, 2000 at the Van Nuys Civic Center P.O. . . conveniently located within walking distance of the cachetmaker's home!
30 were made - 23 were handed out - and surprisingly, none were returned for a refund!
