(2) Westervelt's Post "Indian head." Forgery A by Taylor. Lyons CV $36.00.S. Allan Taylor was most famous of all the forgers of US carrier and local stamps. He also started the first philatelic publication in North America. He made imitations and fantasy creations of stamps that he had seen or heard about and sold them in packets to collectors. Stamp collecting was new and catalogs did not provide pictures, only descriptions.Some Taylor forgeries are remarkably similar to the authentic stamps. Visit to learn more about this area of collecting. You will be able to find these stamps in the Taylor forms section of Online Reference Collection.Forgeries/reprints of carriers and locals are old, many made in the 1860's and saved before stamp hinges were invented. Small faults should be expected. Larger faults are described, and my scans are high definition and should reveal most faults, if any.
