Item Description

This Lot is a 1951 Netherlands Scott #B224-28 Set of 5 semi-postals in Used condition on Registered Air Mail Postcard. Stamps are tied to Address side of postcard by "EINDHOVEN 15 MEI 1951 / 15 MEI 1951 / DAG VAN UITGIFTE" circular First Day Cancel. Set of 5 stamps all have four margins, slightly varying centering (but all good), and deep rich coloring. Cover is addressed to Medan, Sumatra, Indonesia and bears "LUCHTPOST PAR AVION / 1891-60-1951 /PHILIPS" etiquette and Eindhoven Registration label. Address side of postcard also bears three different cachets - one black circular cachet inscribed "LUCHTHAVEN AMSTERDAM SCHIPHOL, one black circular cachet inscribed "1681 - PHILIPS - SIXTY YEARS OF PROGRESS - 1951 / EINDHOVEN / 15.5.1951 / PHILIPS", and one pink hand stamped cachet inscribed "SPECIAL VLUCHT EINDHOVEN-SCHIPHOL AMSTERDAM". Reverse side of postcard shows a colorful picture of the Philips' Jubilee by artist D. Wildshut. Reverse side of postcard also features Medan back stamp. Postcard itself measures approximately 150 mm x 100 mm with sharp corners and straight edges, clean address side, and reverse side is clean and has two hinge marks at top left and right. Scott 2024 Catalogue values this set of stamps alone at $14.25 US - not counting the First Day and Special Flight card itself. A lot of history packed into one postcard.
