Desk blotter advertising the Western Maryland Railway's "Modern Motive Power for Modern Freght Service." Features a 'photo' of two of the line's large and powerful steam locomotives and new diesel engine.

In the days before ballpoints, rollerballs, and felt/nylon tips, business writing was done with fountain pens. Fountain pen ink often took a while to dry, and desk blotters were used to remove the excess and prevent smearing.
