Handwritten Message (German Transcription & English Translation)
Dated April 26, 1947
German (Original Text):
Danke. Grüße – S.G.

Today, another CARE package was sent to Gießen. It seems that only one package has arrived there. Fat, etc., was also sent to Berlin last week – 4 packages to Switzerland. A CARE package was also sent to Braunschweig today.
All your letters have arrived. Please tell Brücke and Marette what I am writing. Thank you. Greetings – S.G."_
Historical Context & Significance
This postal card provides a first-hand glimpse into the post-WWII reality in Germany, reflecting the logistical difficulties of sending food, care packages, and essential goods to war-torn areas. The mention of CARE packages (Cooperative for American Remittances to Europe) highlights the humanitarian aid efforts that played a crucial role in rebuilding Europe. The censorship markings further emphasize the strict controls over communication during the occupation period.
This is a remarkable collector’s piece, ideal for those interested in WWII history, transatlantic airmail, censored correspondence, and postal artifacts from the post-war era.
