US 1945 V-Mail letter (you can see the silver in it) and cover --- War & Navy Departments - V-Mail Service - Official Business --- black U. S. Postal Service No. 1 Aug 22 1944 (August) circular dated postmark with wavy machine bars --- light vertical creases below address window --- light diagonal creases at corners --- back cover flap carefully opened and folded inside cover

Letter is to Miss Beatris Tavared (spelling is uncertain), East Main Street, Tall Pines, Massachusetts --- from Private First Class Joseph Mello, 4180 Hospital Plant, A.P.O. 115, c/o Postmaster, New York, New York --- A.P.O. 115 indicates that at this time this writer is located in Moreton on Lugg, England --- Passed by US 25418 Army Examiner rectangular censor's stamp with mostly illegible signature at upper left

Letter is undated and begins, My Dearest Darling --- the writer says, "Writing you these few lines so as to sort of cheer you up and so you can know that I[']m still thinking of you. Darling I[']ve always got you on my mind, and I want it always to be this way." --- he anticipates, "God will I be happy when this mess is over and [I] have you by my side."

He considers, "But I guess I[']m not the only one who's waiting for that moment. I hope it['s] soon." --- he reflects, "What a day. It sure is hot up here. Honey how are you[?] And are you feeling swell[?] Gee I hope so." --- he reassures, "I[']m so crazy about you and I hope you feel the same way about me. How[']s your folks feeling[?] Swell I hope."

He suggests, "honey keep your fingers crossed[ a]nd i[']ll be back to you before you know it." --- he adds, "i don[']t know what[']s going on back home. As i haven't gotten mail for about 2 1/2 months." --- signed, i remain as always your love, joe;  dark strip across bottom or sides is the plastic holder in the scan
