Item Description

1945 US V-Mail letter (you can see the silver in it) --- letter is to Mr. and Mrs. W. H. McElroy, South Primrose Avenue, Alhambra, California --- from Sergeant F. E. Finnerty, 4128 U. S. Hospital Plant, Detachment of Patients, A.P.O. 298, c/o Postmaster, New York, New York --- A.P.O. 298 indicates that at this time the recipient is in Tidworth, England --- Passed by US 1?808 Army Examiner rectangular censor's stamp with illegible signature at upper left

Letter is dated Hospital in England, January 15, 1945, and begins, Dear Folks --- the writer says, "Just a line to let you know that I am O.K. once again, and probably will be going back up before too long." --- he inquires indirectly, "I haven't heard a line from you since September, so I presume you haven't written."

He relates, "Am up and around at the present and helping at odd jobs around the hospital at present. It helps pass the time away while I get back on my feet." --- he relates, "I rec[ei]ved a card from L. Smith and would have answered it, however it was somewhat smeared and I was unable to decipher the return address."

He requests, "you might let her know that i received it and appreciated her kindness in remembering me." --- he adds, "i was awarded the purple heart medal for my getting in the road of the jerry artillery with my face. (a doubtful honor, i assure you)" --- he complains, "haven't had a drink since last september so take a good big one for me."
