First letter begins, Dearest Mom --- the writer says, "In the past few days, I have received" a number of letters but "This letter will have to be brief and disorganized." --- he mentions, "Buddy was ecstatic about going to Texas to stay with Ike. It was fine that Perry could come home for a while. I'm glad the case is finally being settled."
He continues, "I would advise that you tell Harry as little as possible, and if I send another power of attorney, I wouldn't want you to tell anyone outside the family of it." --- he inquires, "Could you get and be able to use a photostatic copy of the first one? Perhaps the bank would give you one."
He adds, "I'm glad you received the bond. I'm sending a m-n-y order today by air mail. Did you get a good pair of shoes? Are you going to get your dental work finished?" --- he assures, "I have enough clothes, but the problem is to keep them clean. I did a huge washing a week or two ago, but there is another bag full of soiled clothes awaiting me already."
He explains, "I had the volunteer sewing ladies at the Red Cross shorten my [...] jacket and sew on my stripes." --- he adds this letter is "To be continued" --- signed, Jimmy
Second letter begins, "Dearest Mom --- he states, "This is the second page of my letter. I saw 'The Song of Bernadette' at the base theater the other night and thought it was fine." --- he continues, "The movies are handicapped by a poor projector, which distorts the sound, but we get many recent pictures. This picture is on its first run in London."
He thanks, "I was glad to get your picture some time ago. Walker took some snapshots recently and I may be able to send yo one of me as well as of several of the boys." --- he relates, "Sunday dinner was stewed chicken, with lettuce salad. We had first salad at supper. Today we had 'Sunkist' oranges. I am taking the 'Super-D' capsules now" --- he explains, "My asking for food doesn't indicate that my appetite is any greater. I have been getting plenty of food, but not enough fruit."
He elaborates, "We have some kind of fruit about once a day. The snack bar served fresh tomato sandwiches the other night." --- he adds, "The pencil sharpener I referred to was my 'Chicago' one. They are scarce here. I wanted the squeejee to make window-washing easier. Rags are scarce, too." --- he suggests, "You can send any good padlock, such as a 'Yale'." --- signed, Lots of love, Jimmy
