Desk blotter advertising the Western Maryland Railway's acquisition of new Challenger 4-6-6-4 locomotives to bolster its motive roster. It acquired 12 in 1940.

In the days before ballpoints, rollerballs, and felt/nylon tips, business writing was done with fountain pens. Fountain pen ink often took a while to dry, and desk blotters were used to remove the excess and prevent smearing.

Unused with a little soiling and a light crease to the upper left corner, otherwise in nice shape.
