Item Description
1914 WW One France Delandre Poster Stamp Sanitary Trains Unused Hinge Mark 90% OG. Sanitary trains were units of 950 men that provided medical care for entire divisions during World War I. The trains included ambulance and field hospital sections, and camp infirmaries. The ambulance section consisted of a headquarters, one horse-drawn ambulance company, and three motor ambulance companies. The sick and wounded were evacuated to the sanitary trains after receiving emergency care at battalion or regimental aid stations. The trains provided physician-directed care. Ambulance trains were up to a third of a mile long and included wards, pharmacies, emergency operating rooms, kitchens, and staff accommodation. The trains were ready when war was declared on August 4, 1914. The Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) was responsible for medical care during World War I. The RAMC's job was to maintain the health and fighting strength of the forces in the field. WikipediaSeller Information
