Item Description
1914 WW One France Delandre Poster Stamp Radiographic (X-ray) Section Unused No Gum. Radiographic technology was widely used in medicine during World War I, even though X-rays were only discovered in 1895. X-rays were primarily used to identify foreign metal lodged in the body. This allowed military doctors to detect even the smallest pieces of shrapnel and bullets lodged in wounds. In 1914, Marie Curie created mobile X-ray units that could be driven to battlefield hospitals in France. The units were often operated by women who Curie helped train. Soldiers at the front called the portable X-ray labs “petites Curies” (“little Curies”). WikipediaSeller Information
