1914 WW One France Delandre Poster Stamp British Submarine Mining Service Unused Hinge Remnant 80% OG. The British Submarine Mining Service was formed in 1871 at Chatham. The service was part of the Royal Engineers and was responsible for installing and maintaining underwater defenses for dockyard ports. The vessels were crewed by uniformed civilians.
