Item Description

This Lot is an 1899 India Stamped Envelope - Higgins & Gage #B7 - in Used condition. Indicia has been cancelled by "MINT BUILDINGS / 14MA03" circular date stamp - city not indicated - and is addressed to "The New York Institute of Science, Dept 106 D, Rochester New York". Two Anna Six Pie Queen Victoria indicia has deep rich coloring as well as clear black surcharge of "ONE ANNA". Transit Marking of New York shows Postage Due of 6¢ along with universal postage due marking of circle "T". Reverse side shows Rochester, New York receiving mark. Stamped Envelope measures approximately 146 mm x 83 mm, has lightly rounded/bent corners and nice straight edges. Front and reverse surfaces, while clean, show light postal wear from postal handling. Light toning along flap seal line exists on front and reverse, and there are few toning spots on the reverse side as well as a paper tear on the reverse side flap. Still an interesting cover with lots of character and potential for further research. Please see pictures for condition and quality.
