1877 – "Marche Funebre d’une Marionette" ["Funeral March of a Marionette"]. Charles Gounod. Complete. Approximately 10” x 13”. Complete. From "Stoddart’s Choice Music for the Piano or Organ" published in 1877.

This colorful cover shows two “stringless” puppets in the foreground with a funeral procession in the background. This is the familiar tune that was used as the theme song for Alfred Hitchcock’s famous television series that ran on CBS and NBC between 1955 and 1965 and later in syndication. It spawned a series of paperback anthologies that included stories the censors did not allow to be shown on TV.

Light toning. Removed from a privately bound album of sheet music, so rough along the left edge.
