Item Description
Approximately 7.75" x 7.5".Justification for and approval of a Wisconsin soldier's request for the state to provide funds to help support his family at home. Three attached papers; two shorter than the base document. Base document is the approval form. The first attachment is a certification of marriage that was franked with a red 5-cent "Certificate" revenue stamp (Scott #R24). The second attachment is a witness statement from a Captain attesting to the soldier's ongoing service at Camp Randall, the largest union post in Wisconsin.. Camp; Randall also held Confederate Prisoners of War.
If you're a college sports fan, you may have heard of Camp Randall. Today it is the site of the University of Wisconsin's football stadium and field house.
Wisconsin had a robust program, known as "Aid to Volunteers" that provided assistance to families of enlisted soldiers whose active military service created a financial burden.
In nice shape.
