Item Description

This Lot is an intriguing Stampless folded letter originated in 1859 from unknown location. Cover shows arrival 14 September in Liverpool with circular "PAID LIVERPOOL / T5" circular hand stamp; transit London with "LONDON / SP 15 59 / PAID" hand stamp; an oval "St.P.A. / 17 SEP 59" hand stamp; a double circle "D.O.P.A. Hamburg / 19" hand stamp; and a "Franco" hand stamp with red 6 manuscript marking. Also a couple manuscript notes which I can't read as well as remnant of wax seal. Cover itself is a folded blue paper. Reverse side of page shows one-half page of mirror image handwriting - implying at one time there might have been a second page on which note was written. Paper has tear on left side with 1/2 inch by 3/4 inch missing piece. When folded, letter measures approximately 84 mm. Please see pictures of front an reverse.

This folded letter is for the curious philatelist, interested in ship mail passing through Liverpool and Germany and possible France. Have fun with this one!
