Item Description
1852 US Stampless folded letter with partially smudged, blue Philadelphia, PA. Jan 6 5 cts. (Pennsylvania with high "A" - January - five cents) circular dated postmark at upper right --- addressed to Abraham Bell & Son, Park Row, New York --- 180 in script on inside flap --- seal is present with hole cut in corresponding back flap from openingP & S in a rectangular frame at upper left corner of letter paper --- letter is dated Philadelphia, 1st Month 6th, 1852, and begins, Abraham Bell & Son, New York --- the writer says, "We now wait on you with Sadler Fenton & Co Sales per J & S # & case of p... nett... Four hundred & thirty one 98/100 Doll[ar]s" --- he continues, "For which we enclose our note for same amount pay $431.98/100 which we hope will be found correct and satisfactory."
Signed, your sincere friends, william jones & sons --- two holes torn in left edge of unfolded letter, apparently from binding --- tiny slits and holes at folded edges and corners --- creases from folding; dark strip across bottom or sides is the plastic holder in the scan
