Item Description

Interesting
stampless cover from East Pepperell, Massachusetts. Early 1850s, but no date or docketing or
content. Large envelope; unusual for the
time. Mostly clear red handstamp a bit
stuttered; light “paid” handstamp and bold “3” rate marking. ASCC $25; vertical file fold and not commonly
seen MA marking. Of note, there were two
East Pepperell offices The first operated 1850-55 before changing to Pepperell
depot; a second East Pepperell office opened less than two weeks later and is
still operating. But this is the first
one – which is Rarity *9* in Merolla and Crowther and R7 in Helbock. Nice Middlesex County item!
