1846 US Stampless folded letter with blue Baltimore Nov 25 Md. (November - Maryland) circular dated postmark at upper left --- bold 5 in horizontal oval stamped heavily in blue at upper right --- addressed to Messrs Abraham Bell & Son, New York --- 267 in script on inside flap --- indistinct blue circular marks on inside flap --- seal is present with hole on corresponding back flap from opening

Letter is dated Baltimore, November 25, 1846, and begins, Messrs Abraham Bell & Son, New York, Gentlemen --- the writer says, "There is no ship here ready to receive cargo, or probably we might be able to execute your order." --- he continues, "Corn is coming down, and no one in the market appears disposed to buy Prime new corn sold to day at 50¢. Some old much cut at 52 [&] 53"

He elaborates, "Comparatively good old yellow would not bring much over 60 - unfortunately there is not much good offering." --- he notes, "Sales of Flour were made at 4 3/4 & we should not be surprised to see it lower" --- he relates, "The only ship unengaged is the Ra...m in our hands. We have some expectation of selling her if we do not shall take freight"

He adds, "the lydia has not yet arrived - capt. Soule is on the spot, & his ideas of freight are so high, we hardly name her for freight" --- signed, yours truly, clark & kellogg --- 11/27 answered in pencil at upper right --- two holes at left of unfolded letter paper with tears to edge, presumably from binding --- tiny slits and holes at folded edges and corners --- creases from folding; dark strip across bottom or sides is the plastic holder in the scan
