Sale item: a sharp and distinctive fancy cancel on a large bank note issue - - -this is a resale item acquired from a previous sale of dr. Hubert c. Skinner estate***. These offerings include both ordinary and some elusive post-civil war fancy cancellation items from dr. Skinner's personnel collection (a few of which he purchased from my original Hip store earlier in this past decade!) - -

_ note that some minor stamp flaws may be present that do not adversely affect the appearance of this classic stamp or its fancy cancellation._ _ according to cole, some strikes may appear identical to others and have similar format, but actually exhibit slightly different dimensions, for example. These minor variations occur frequently with hand-carved designs because the original carved impression becomes damaged or otherwise unusable, and the designated "post office's carver" produces an extremely similar, but not perfectly identical replacement. Cole further acknowledges that the catalogue tracing may represent a second or later generation of a particular design although professional cataloguers make every attempt to publish an exact representation of the original version whenever it is available [either...Preferably on-cover...Or if necessary, off-cover]._

The item is being offered is from the extensive and valuable hubert c. Skinner estate. Professor skinner was a renowned philatelist and researcher who co-authored the popular "united states cancellations 1845-1869: unusual and representative markings," along with amos eno. (this important reference catalog was published in 1980.)

Some of the fancy cancellations being offered from the skinner estate may be identified by [and traced in] either cole or salkind or both---however, because of time constraints, their listings are being posted without thoroughly researching and subsequently identifying a specific catalog/tracing number for them, if applicable. (an exception occurs for any listing in which a tracing identication number [usually cole's] is included in the title exactly as it was previously annotated on dr. Skinner's mounting pages.)

These offerings feature various banknote[s] w/ mostly bold and socked-on better fancy cancels [post civil war era thru end of the 19th century]...Some minor paper flaws may be present that do not adversely affect the appearance of this classic stamp or its fancy cancellation. Some strikes may appear identical to others, but may have similar format, yet slightly different dimensions, for example. All cancellations should thus be considered to have been applied in "black ink" unless otherwise stated in the listing heading or description.
