A Socked on the Nose (SON) cancel occurs when the circular postmark containing the date and town name appears on the stamp. A well centered SON cancel is often referred to as a bullseye. SONs are often collected solely for their appearance while some collectors specialize in postmarks of a particular town, date, zip code, date, etc.
