Although I don't deal in US stamps I think Scott's lessons on Franklin- Washington issues are priceless. They deserve to be readily found on whatever forum Hipstamp discussions end up at.

I refund when non delivery is claimed and I did not use a tracked method of shipping. I have, however, refused to do business with chronic "item not received" buyers. Lack of a banned bidders list is one of the major flaws of Hipstamp IMHO..

So far I have trouble figuring out what the heck I should be doing at Discord, but then I'm a semi senile 80 year old. One improvement over Hipstamp would be that the colours are vivid compared to the washed out colours used on Hip sites. I do have …

I'll echo Bob - Look for the key values. I'll use Canada as an exmaple. When I go to look at a collection I'll look for the 1897 Victoria Jubilee issue higher values. Does it have the first Canadian stamps?, ie 3 d Beaver. I'll look at the George V …

John - I've looked at your store and you have a decent stock at fair prices. I have found sales of Canada and BNA have been a bit slow for me of late, but that's not my main area. Things will vary from month to month, and even after alomost 60 yers …

Given a Sidney, Ohio company's past history with lawsuits I think the word SCOTT would have half the lawyers in Ohio chasing you . They went ballistic when a Canadian album publisher tried to use "standard" numbers in his albums some years ago.

Scott - some years back on some discussion forum somewhere , it was mentioned that when Foreign Registered Mail hit the USPS it was forwarded thru the regular mail stream - not as Registered mail used to be. Canada Post will no longer accept Registe…

John - I should have gone to a nearby show today, but it was snowing so didn't bother. At a show most dealers will have their stock priced to sell to collectors, but many will have collections, collection balances and the like. If I have want list…

The Vincent Graves Greene Philateic Research Foundation, web site greenefoundation.ca is named after one of Canada's foremost Philatelists. Greene (1897-1988) was sometimes called " Canada's Grand Old Man" of Philatey and established the foundation …

On an 0.85 cent purchase, Hipstamp is going to take a % of the entire invoice, and Paypal will take at least 35 cents on your payment. There is no way that a seller is going to make money any money on an 85 cent purchase and just charging the face …

I'm in Canada, and I had a parcel of stamps from GB take about 40 days to arrive in London, Ontario, Canada. At first tracking the parcel would show it at the point of mailing, then it just disappeared. It never did show up on the Canada Post track…

Scott - I was also surprised that it was not broken up. I'm guessing that who ever stole it did not know what they had stolen and just kept it.

I have been with Hipstamp/Bidstart/Stampwants since 2005. While it is not perfect it has been a better selling platform than many of the alternatives over the years , except for the Reign of Error by that British outfit that seems to keep shooting …

I get similar messages allegedly from Canada Post saying that I owe a small amount to get a parcel delivered. I ignore them. Canada Post may want me to pay HST before the postman delivers a parcel, but since the Canada Post minmum charge for collect…

Greene Foundation in Toronto is , in Canada, regarded as the place to get certs. How do the perf tips feel? The colour of the 10 cent on the gum side doesn't look right and all the perf tips look awfully clean

Using cut and paste, I make up a packing list using information from the Paypal payment email to tell the customer what is beng sent, who it is being sent to, and how it is being set. I also add a special offer, a link to a current pdf of a snail m…

Thanks Jeri I want a hair transplant from the great grandson.

If my feeble memory is correct, a seller can manually combine invoices after the 5 day period.

While Paypal is far from perfect, and I can understand people being upset about Paypal "censoring" what people say, they are a lot less cost than merchant credit card services offered by the Canadian banking industry. I don''t mind personal cheques,…

I tend to agree with Ted T that it is case of gum glazing in a mount. My highly scientific test for regumming is to very gently feel the perf tips. If the tips are "stiff" it's probably regummed. If the tips are "soft" it's probably original gum . P…

John - It takes a bit of time to build a good customer base. Repeat customers are the base of any business survival and it just takes time to build that repeat customer base. Someone above mentioned the Hipstamp marketing letters. They are good - s…

Depending on where you live, you may need a sales tax number. If you use your own name you can run sales htrough your own banking accounts. If you use company name like " Godzilla Stamp Company" you may have some red tape to get through to open a B…

John - The Caribou issue is really hard to find well centered. On that issue I would worry more about the centering than the hinging as long as the stamp is sound. The word "mint" seems to have changed sinnce I started in the stamp world in the 1950…

There are a lot of older colelctions that have hinges that should never have been manufactured and never used on stamps, and many Newfoundland and Canadian collections can have them. If the stamps look good and have not been thinned to me they are …

I live in the same Province as Vance. He does get a lot of his material from other Ontario auction houses but also gets alot from folks selling out to him ( His cheque is always good). If I am at an auction where he is I do enjoy making sure he pays…

I closed my store last year when I got a new hip. I ended up getting orders every day that the store was closed.I was able to email and tell customers that I could not fill their orders until I could get down the stairs into my stamp office We have …

I have found classic GB to be a hard sell at any site. IMHO some catalogue valuations are perhaps way above actual market, especially from catalogue publishers who might be influenced by investment protfolio vendors.

John O'Neil In the headline I just use the Scott Catalogue number, but in the write up portion I stay some thing Like " Scott & Unitrade # blah blah blah" . There are more buyers at Hipstamp familiar with Scott numbers than Unitrade numbers. I …
