  There are no overprints on the stamps. Looks to be acidic residue left behind from whatever was used to attach the stamps to an album page.

  Wonder why the op indicates these are overprints on the front of the stamps, as has not shown back scans (which would show tape marks if that's the reason)?

  It was just odd... It looks like where a hinge was, but there is nothing on the backs of the stamps.

  Ex-tape marks might not be as visible on the reverse of the stamps if they are mint with gum, which it appears these are.....used or MNG will normally be very visible on the reverse but it is not always so, at least in my experience with gummed stamps....
