Range search

What are the limitations on range searches. I tried 1-99 and nothing showed up
But 1-40 yields a lot of item. So I assume the range searches are limited. But to what? and where is it stated?

    Could be something peculiar to that specific country, maybe? I just did 2 searches: Solomon Islands 1-99, and Solomon Islands 1-40, with 304 results and 69 results, respectively, and both showing listings from Scott #1 to #99 and #40.
