Does someone know the history of ACE hand painted covers?

I don't normally collect covers, but sometimes I like the art.

They seem to be postmarked from the 1940's to the 1990's,
from all over the country.
They also appear to be numbered.

These two caught my eye because they are a cross collectable with my wifes thistle collection.

My biggest fear for when I'm gone,

Nothing you can do about it at that point. Or, you could tell her the truth and risk an earlier exit.
