When I was young... -There were two Germanies and one Sudan. -A lightning strike would make the telephone ring. -Walmart was some rinky-dink dime store in Arkansas. -We still had dime stores. -I had a de Gaussing wand for my 8-track player.
I remember having to stick a book of matches into the slot under the 8-track cartridge in order to line the tape up with the heads. But I ain't never heard of a de Gaussing
I have a small confederate section in my collection. I presume 50 percent or more fake, with the exception of the stamps I bought from Mystic which I assume are all real. I'll post some more covers.
Looking at the cover you've posted John, It looks authentic , the cancel covers both stamp and envelope simultaneously, the cover seems aged adequately and it is typical in appearance, with handwriting/ink appearance appropriate to the era. Plus, it does NOT seem to represent any historical event ( like a battle or key moment in the confederacy),which counterfeiters tend to do. I don't think anyone made the effort to counterfeit it.
Ok, had to look it up. Carl Fredrich Gauss. No de Gausser, no de Gaussing. A gauss is a measure of magnetism. A degausser de-magnetises something. I am now un-misinformed. How 'bout you?
I remember the head cleaning cartridge, there were drops you put on the felt part. But a de-magnetizer, that reminds me of a story. My childhood friend Eddie was the first of our group to have color tv. One day we were at his house playing with a strong magnet. I wanted to show him a trick I'd learned. I took the magnet and held it to the tv screen and moved it around. It didn't do what I expected. It altered the colors and made a wide green line down the middle of the screen. His parents were pissed! I had previously performed this trick with a small magnet and a black and white tv. It distorts the picture and you can move the picture around. Luckily for me, my uncle was a tv repairman and he fixed it. With a de-magnetizer. I was still in big trouble.

These are not beavers. They are mink (minks?).

Thanks.
Did you open it to see if it is an adversity cover?

I just bought these from Brother Greg Doll. Along with a couple others but these are my favorite. Thanks Greg.
