New to stamps-- is this 2 cent red stamp worth anything?

Please help if you can.

Is this red stamp worth anything?

I sell old postcards, but sometimes, I see some old stamps that are unique, but not sure of their worth. I figured I better start educating myself..

Also looking to buy an updated price guide . I have an old one called The Postal Service Guide to US Stamps. Where can you find the newer ones?

Thank you for any information!

  • Barbara,

It is a Scott 319 (1903) or 319F (1908) depending on whether it's a Type I or II. Can't really tell from your scan, but either way, a minimum value stamp at about $.025 catalog value or so. A 319Fi is the carmine color (type II) and this is very likely not that and would need to be expertized for that to be so. Still if it is a 319Fi it carries a catalog value of $50 (in italics meaning these are difficult to value for several reasons). I wouldn't hold out much hope for this one though. Anway, my two cents (pun intended!) You never know what can be found on old post cards and covers and it always good to check them out. I hope this helps!

  • 1. Nope not worth much . Less than 50 cents .
.2. Scott US stamp catalogue , get a used older one issued in the last 15 years .
  • The stamps on post cards are not unique. They were printed in the millions to pay postage rates for post cards. Usually, the post card will be worth more than the stamp, but a nice cancel like on this card can make the card attractive to a stamp collector in addition to post card collectors.
