Stuck sheets

I picked up a bunch of random stuff at a flea market. One of the envelopes has quite a few full sheets of Germany Scott #205 (and maybe
few others). Unfortunately they were not kept in a low humidity environment and the sheets are now stuck together. I thought about using steam to get them separated, then lay face down to "dry" individually. Two questions, will the steam work (instead of water soak which would ruin the adhesive), and more importantly, is it even worth the time and trouble?

  • A shallow pan with cold water is your best bet. The adhesive is already ruined, there is no saving it. Hot steam increases the risk of damaging the paper (plus burning yourself). Saving the perfs and keeping it from falling apart will be a challenge, but a larger flat spatula type instrument to scoop it out and place on a large blotting paper face down to dry slowly could help. Whether it would be worth is just personal preference.
