Early booklets

D4OPjgHWsAQRlmT

Hi folks. I'm new here. Trying to find Scott numbers for this and other early booklets. I've tried searching for "BK1" then going up from there. The first result I got was "BK14" but it's not the first booklet. BTW, I don't have the pictured booklet, I found the picture by searching on Google for "first US postage stamp booklet 1900" but I couldn't find the Scott#. Any help is appreciated. Also any sellers specializing in booklets?
Thank you.

I wonder if this may get you started, search booklet in USA and narrowed results to booklets and date range 1900-1910

    https://www.hipstamp.com/search?keywords=BOOKLET&parent_id=12&item_specifics_03_stamp_type[]=booklets-air-mail|booklets|booklets-cover&item_specifics_07_year_of_issue[from]=1900&item_specifics_07_year_of_issue[to]=1910
Gives 6 results, try varying the year range to find others
I believe BK14 is Scott 319 2 cent Carmine Type 1 in various shades from Scott US Specialized Catalog
Looks like BK1 was for Scott 279 cost 25 cents containing 24 cents worth of stamps

  • Thank you, Mike. I think I'm getting the picture now. I was thinking that when I searched for BK1 and got no results that it meant there was no BK1 in the catalog. I guess it just means no one has one for sale. And now that I see the prices of the early booklets, I both understand and realize they are out of my reach. That's okay though, I'll stick to newer ones that I like and airmail. That was very good of you to research this for me, thank you again. People on this site are kind and patient and don't seem to mind stupid questions. I don't plan on getting rich with stamp booklets, I just like them, and the stamps inside are kept protected and beautiful.

John, if you can get your hands on a Scott US Specialized catalog (not the regular vol 1), there's an extensive section on US booklets and booklet panes.

In ordinary times, I would've suggested going to the largest branch of your local library, where many carry not only the 6- (or now 12-) volume Scott set but also the US Specialized. I appreciate that your options for that may be limited for the time being, but perhaps you live in an area where the libraries are open. (They are not where I am.)

I just now checked, and the person who literally breaks down Scott catalogs into their respective country sets does not do that for the US Specialized, as best I can tell. If he did, I was going to suggest getting those. Otherwise, Scott catalogs just a little out of date often sell for an attractive price on eBay. (Maybe here on HipStamp, too.) It might be worth getting.
  • Thank you, Phil. I thought of the library but everything is closed here in Massachusetts. Don't think I'd go right now even if they were open. I will look for copy of the Specialized. Good advice.
